Athens, Ohio (September 12, 2012)
Avalanche Pizza wants everyone to vote for their new creation. Starting Thursday, September 13, order either the “Meat Romney” or the “Barack ObaMeat.” The pizzas are identical: The crust is made with two pounds of locally raised Italian sausage and topped with marinara, mozzarella, provolone and natural casing pepperoni. Avalanche will tally up the votes for both candidates on October 25th.
John Gutekanst, owner of Avalanche stated, “These are strange times we’re living in and I think it’s time to take a deep breath, smile, get everyone together and try to eat two pounds of pork on a pizza!” John said he originally got the idea because of his decision to use fresh local pork from King Family Farms in Albany. “This pork is the bomb,” John said. “It’s local, free from GMO’s, chemical additives and raised humanely. But best of all, I can form it in any shape I want, it’s gluten-free, wheat-free, low-carb and we’ll even put vegan cheese on it.”
In an edgy advertising campaign, John said he has used some great quotes from both candidates that would be perfect for this pizza. “Mr. Romney used the term ‘Kick in the Gut,’ and I found a quote of President Obama saying, ‘Can’t I just eat my waffle?’” Gutekanst has invited both presidential candidates to come and try this pizza.
Avalanche Pizza is located in Athens, Ohio, a college town home to Ohio University. John said sales of this type of pizza skyrocket between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. when the bars close.
Avalanche will donate $5 of each pizza sold to United Appeal of Athens County which funds twelve local agencies. United Appeal also funds and operates the important 211 information hotline.
